Tsunami warning has been issued after a strong 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck near the Solomon Islands in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a regional tsunami warning for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
The epicenter of the quake was located 324 kilometers south-east of the Solomon Islands capital Honiara at a depth of 10 kilometers, PTWC said.
The earthquake was originally registered as magnitude 8.3 but was later revised down to 7.6 by the US Geological Survey. All tsunami watches previously announced by PTWC were cancelled upon revision.
